Jamie Foxx and Dave Franco star in "Day Shift," a vampire hunting movie. The movie follows the story of a hard working blue collar dad who just wants to provide a good life for his quick-witted daughter, but his mundane San Fernando Valley pool cleaning job is a front for his real source of income, hunting and killing vampires as part of an international Union of vampire hunters.Although the premise sounds great, can J.J. Perry make it work?
The opening scene of the film is a wild action sequence that sees Jamie Foxx shooting a shotgun at an old lady, who turns out to have been a vampire. The movie then launches into an amazing fight scene between them. I felt that the movie had a lot of fun using this type of ragdoll physicality in its action sequences, making them pop in ways that other Netflix action movies and blockbusters don't.
Day Shift, another lighthearted and fun film, was one that I really enjoyed. It had original action and didn't require me to think too much. I enjoyed it immensely. I enjoyed the humor and found myself laughing quite a lot. Of course, it was inspired by some fantastic vampire films such Blade and Lost Boys. Both of these films happen to be some my favorite movies. The acting was excellent, the directing was fantastic and the (Day Shift Netflix) cinematography was very good. Day Shift will satisfy those who are looking for something that is entertaining but not too serious. It's great fun.
Day Shift had mixed reviews. There are some great action scenes and fun characters (the brothers and Seth), but the villain is terrible and there are a lot more mediocre characters. However, that makes Day Shift even more enjoyable. It seemed like there were missing scenes that were not cut. Bud's neighbor acts as if they are friends even though she had only 3 minutes of screentime before the final scene. Bud made prank phone calls while working at the gas station, which was probably the best scene in the movie. It was hilarious and I enjoyed watching it. The movie's rest was not as enjoyable. Day Shift is, in general, a mixed bag. Some parts are great, and some parts are terrible. But if you're looking for a few laughs, you could do worse than this movie.
Snoop Dogg makes this movie well worth it. Snoop Dogg is simply a great guy. He's the embodiment of cool.
